The Miserly Farmer
인색한 농부
 A farmer who lived in a small village suffered from severe chest pains and loss of memory.
조그만 마을에 사는 한 농부가 심한 가슴통증과 기억장애에 시다리고 있었다.
 The village doctor tried many things, but couldn't cure him.
마을의 의사는 여러가지를 시도해보았지만 그를 고칠 수가 없었다.
 So the farmer decided that he would visit a doctor in the town.
그래서 그 농부는 도시의 의사에게 가기로 결심했다.
 But he was told that a patient had to pay three dollars for the first visit and one dollar for the second visit.
그러나 그는 처음 진료에 환자가 3달러를 내고 두번째에는 1달러를 내야한다고 들었다.
 The miserly farmer thought about this for a long time, and then he decided to go to the doctor in the town.
그 인색한 농부는 오랫동안 이것에 대해 생각을 하고서는 도시의 의사에게 가기로 결심했다.
As he came into the doctor's office, he said, "Nice to see you again, doctor.
" 농부는 도시 의사의 사무실(=진료실)에 들어가며 말했습니다 ' 다시 뵙게 되서 반가워요, 선생님' 
The doctor asked him a few questions, examined his chest,
and then took the dollar which the farmer insisted on giving him.
의사는 몇 가지 질문을 하고 농부의 가슴을 진찰한 다음 농부가 주장하는대로 1불을 받았습니다.
Then the doctor said with a smile, "Well, sir. There's nothing new.
Please continue to take the same medicine I gave you the first time you came to see me."
그리곤 그 의사는 미소지으며 말했습니다 '자, 선생님. 새로운 이상은 없어요.. 부디 처음에 저를 보러 오셨을 때 처방해준 약과 동일한 약을 계속 복용하십시오'

A Grumpy Customer
까다로운 손님
Bob was a waiter in a small restaurant.
밥은 작은 레스토랑의 웨이터였다.
Bob was always friendly and polite to customers.
밥은 항상 다정했고 손님에게 공손했다.
He enjoyed making his customers happy.
그는 그의 손님을 행복하게 만드는것을 즐겼다.
He always had a cheerful smile on his face.
그는 그의 얼굴에 기분좋은 웃음을 가지고 있었다.
One day a new customer came into the restaurant.
어느날 새로운 손님이 레스토랑 안에 들어왔다.
Bob went over to him and gave him a menu.
밥은 손님에게 다가갔고 메뉴판을 건넷다.
The man studied the menu for a while and then gave Bob his order.
그 사람은 잠시동안 메뉴를 선택했고 밥에게 주문했다.
Bob took the order to the kitchen and then came back into the restaurant to serve other customers.
밥은 주방으로 주문했다. 그리고 레스토랑의 다른 손님의 주문을 받기위해 돌아섰다.
The new customer called him to his table.
새로운 손님이 그의 테이블에서 그를 불렀다.
"Waiter." he said. He sounded grumpy.
웨이터 라고 그는 말했다. 그는 말소리가 심술 궂었다.
"It's hot in here. Turn on the  air conditioning."
여기는 더워요 에어컨을 틀어주세요
"Yes, sir." said Bob. He smiled at the new customer.
예손님 이라고 밥이 말했다. 그는 새 손님에게 미소를 지었다.
"No problem."
물론이죠
Bob went to the kitchen and then came out to serve some other customers.
밥은 부엌에 갔다 나와서 다른 손님에게 서빙했다.
A few minutes later, the new customer called him again.
몇분후에 새로운 손님이 그를 다시 불렀다.
"Waiter!" he said. He was grumpier than last time.
그는 웨이터라고 말했다. 그는 지난번보다 날카로웠다.
"You've turned the air conditioning down too far! Now it's too cold."
당신은 에어컨을 너무 내렸어 지금은 너무 추워
he didn't say please and he wasn't polite.
그는 부탁하지 않았고 예의 바르지않았다.
Bob smiled at the grumpy new customer.
밥은 날카로워진 새로운 손님에게 미소지었다.
"Of course, sir," he said.
알겠습니다. 손님이라고 그는 말했다.
"I'll go and adjust it immediately.".
바로가서 조정하겠습니다.
He reshed off to the kitchen.
그는 부엌으로 달려갔다.
Several minutes later while Bob was serving the grumpy customer his food, the customer complained again.
밥이 거칠어진 손님의 음식을 서빙하고 있는 몇분 후에 그 손님은 다시 불평했다.
"It's too hot again," he said angrily.
그는 화를내면서 너무 뜨거워라고 말했다.
"I feel like I'm going to melt. Turn the air conditioner back on!"
 나는 내가 녹아가고 있는 느낌을 받았다. 에어컨을 켜달라.
Bob said he was sorry again and reshed off to the kitchen.
밥은 다시 미안하다고 말하고 부엌으로 다시 달려갔다.
Of course, it wasn't long before the customer complained again that  he was too cold.
물론 그 고객이 추워죽겠다고 불평을 하기엔 별로 많은 시간이 걸리지 않았다
This time he said, "I want to see the manager."
그는 말했다. 나는 매니저를 보기를 원한다.
"Of course, sir," Bob said smiling. "I'll call him immediately."
물론입니다. 손님 . 밥은 웃으면서 말했다. 나는 즉시 그를 부를 것입니다.
The manager came out to the grumpy customer.
그 매니저가 거칠어진 손님에게 다가갔다.
"That waiter ia an idiot!" said the customer, pointing to Bob.
그 웨이터는 바보야 라고 손님이 밥을 가르키며 말했다.
"When I came in here, the air conditioning was too low and I asked him to turn it up.
내가 여기 왔을때 에어컨이 작동이 약해서 나는 그에게 동작 시켜달라고 했다.
He turned it up too high, so I asked him to turn it down,
그는 너무 높게 동작 시켰다. 그래서 나는 그에게 낮춰달라고 말했다.
He turned it down too much so I asked him to turn it up again.
그는 너무 낮게 낮춰서 나느 다시 그에게 높여 달라고 했다.
He can't do anything right."
그는 어떤것도 바로 하지 않았다.
"I'm sorry, sir." said the manager, "but we don't have air conditioning in our restaurant."
미안합니다. 손님이라고 매지저는 말했다. 하지만 우리는 우리 레스토랑 안에 에어컨을 가지고 있지 않습니다.

Some people have a keen sense of humor, others do not.
어떤 사람은 날카로운 유머감각을 가지고 있고 어떤사람은 그렇지 않다.
Sense of humor is part of a person's character.
유머감각은 사람의 성격의 일부이다.
If someone has no sense of humor, we feel that he lacks something very important.
만약 유머감각이 없는 사람이 있다면 우리는 매우 중요한 어떤것이 부족하다고 느낀다.
He cannot see the funny side of life.
그는 인생의 즐거운 면을 볼수 없다.
He takes everything too seriously.
그능 항상 매우 진지하게 받아들인다.
In other words, he is boring.
다른 말로 하면 그는 지루하다
We are attracted to the person who has a sense of humor.
우리는 유먹 감각이 있는 사람에게 매력을 느낀다.
A German King and Two French Soldiers
독일 왕과 두명의 프랑스 군인
Once upon a time there were two young Frenchmen in the German army, but their German was very poor.
옛날에 독일군안에 두명의 프랑스 군인이 있었다. 하지만 그들의 독일어는 매우 어리석었다.
They could understand and speak it very little.
그들은 이해하고 말할수 있는것이 거의 없었다.
One day the German king came to visit the army.
언젠가 독일 왕이 군대를 방문했다.
"The king will come to see both of you," an officer told them."
장교가 그들에게 말했다. 왕이 너의 둘을 보러 올것이다.
He may ask you these questions:
그는 이 질문을 물어 볼것이다. 
How old are you?
당신의 나이는 몇살이냐
How long ago did you join the army?
얼마나 오랬동안 군대에 있었느냐 
Are you happy here?"
여기 있는것이 행복하냐
" How must we answer the questions?" asked the Frenchmen.
프랑스 사람이 우리는 질문에 어떻게 대답해야 되냐고 물었다.
You must say,"Twenty-one years.
너는 21살이라고 말해야 한다.
One year.
일년
Yes, both of us are."
예 둘다 행복하다.
Then the officer told the French soldires to try hard to remember the answer.
그러자 장교는 프랑스 군인에게 대답을 열심히 기억하라고 말했다.
Soon the king came. "Where are the two French soldiers?"askd the king. " I want to meet them first."
곧 왕이 왔다.  두명의 프랑스 군인은 어디 있느냐라고 왕이 물었다. 나는 먼저 그들을 만나야 한다.
When the king met the soldiers, he had the same questions to ask, but he asked the second question first.
왕이 그 군사를 만나러 왔을때 그는 똑같은 질문을 물어 보았다. 하지만 그는 두번째 질문을 먼저 했다.
"How long age did you join the army?" asked the king.
왕이 군대에 얼마나 있었냐고 물었다.
"Twenty-one years,"said the young men.
젊은 남자는 21년이라고 말했다.
"How old are you then?"
그럼 나이는 어떻게 되냐
"one year,? they said.
그는 한살 이라고 말했다.
"What are you talking about? Are you crazy?"
무슨 말을 하냐 당신 미쳤냐
"Yes, both of us are,? said the soldiers.
그래 우리 둘다 미쳤다 라고 군인이 말했다.
